What Is Masonry & Brickwork?
Masonry is the craft of building with brick, stone, concrete block, and the mortar that holds it all together. In NYC, that covers an enormous range of work: full brick wall rebuilds, partial wall replacement, brick veneer over framing, parapet reconstruction, chimney rebuilds, retaining walls, garden walls, structural piers, foundation repair, and any other load-bearing or decorative work where masonry is involved. It is the oldest trade in New York City, and on most blocks, the building you are looking at is held up by mortar and brick.

Bad masonry does not just look bad. It fails in ways that can hurt people. A loose parapet can drop bricks on the sidewalk. A failing retaining wall can shift and crack the foundation behind it.
